Christmas is coming and some of us are getting fat so it's time for our now traditional(?) Christmas Pudding Race held in the morning of the day we have the AGM.
This year skippers had the choice of sailing RG65/Dragonforce or Micro Magics - all to sail and be scored together. Sid couldn't make up his mind so tried both.
A slightly worrying weather forecast of strong winds may have put off some potential entrants. In the event eight skippers tested themselves against the strong gusting southwesterly. The section of the course in front of the clubhouse was relatively calm but extremely variable in direction but the windward mark proved challenging for all at times.
John (835) rose to the challenge with his usual skill although closely pursued by Clive(67). After not too good a start, Graham (400) changed to a very unpromising looking "D" rig which proved to be just right for the conditions and improved his placings considerably.
Ian (95) had the misfortune to lose jib attachment in heat 7 and required the rescue boat - just in time really as it looked as if a sinking was a possibility.
By and large a good mornings racing helped in no small measure by copious amounts of Ian's tea and biscuits.
The puddings were kindly presented by Rose Meredith.

What a wet day. Thanks to Graham Tite and John Burgoine for laying the course in rotten weather, also thanks to Roger for running the race in difficult circumstances. Almost no wind which made sailing very challenging.
Clive Hartland, Alan Coleman and John Burgoine seemed to cope with conditions better than the rest of us. Sid Sims swing rig seemed to work well in very light winds especially when on a run. Colin Billington and Steve Philpot both had a good showing. It was nice to see Adam Foley back with us, the light wind did not seem to suite him. Thanks to Ian the birdman for brill tea and biscuits. (GS)

17 competitors made for interesting racing, weather mixed. It looked at one time as though it would rain, but fortunately it stayed away. The wind was light to moderate. John Burgoine came first with Clive Hartland a close second followed closely in third place Mark Litherland. Race 5 created a bit of excitement with Graham Tite and John Burgoine dancing with each other and the buoy. Alan Skitt took the safety boat out and parted the dancers and created waves for those still racing. Brian Morris has stopped entertaining us and has stopped finishing last - well done Brian. Our thanks to Ian Apps for the perfect tea and biscuits. Thanks also to Mike Brown and Dave Jones for officiating and thanks also to every one who took part in such a sporting manner, keep smiling. (GS)

Another frustrating day for most of us. High winds and then no wind, blowing from all directions. At one stage directly from above, this bought the best out in some, and the worst in others. Again John B.(54) seemed to adapt to the conditions best (I keep saying this). Choice of rig was difficult. Robin finishing second with Clive third the first none Dragon. Ian the bird man and Ian Cooke where both volunteered to call the line and score thank you both. The rest of us can not race unless someone steps forward to do this. Big thank you to Ian the bird man for the tea and biscuits. Also belated happy Birthday and thanks to Mike S. who each week puts this on the internet. IOM racing next week lets hope for better weather. (GS)

Yet another windy day. 14 competitors signed on, the pond was a bit lumpy, this seemed to suit the Dragons the exception to this was Mark Litherland who came first overall. It was nice to see Adam Foley with his new Dragon, he had a problem with his servo, but his boat looks the part. Brian Morris's was attacked by an unseen monster of the deep that took two large bites out of his sail. The Puma's were not suited to this weather, Graham S changed his rig but could not get his boat going. Harry and Clive results where very close Steve Philpott was close behind. Thanks to Sid for recording, Roger for calling the line and Ian the bird man for the best cup of tea I drank that afternoon. (GS)

A beautiful hot summers day. Light variable winds. 15 signed on but only 12 managed to start. Mike, Graham S and Ian all had gear failure, better luck next Tuesday. The racing started in good spirit. Brian was the strongest overall as he held up the other 11. Blues supporters are used to this position. Ian rescued a swan and transported it to Wyndley pool to save it from attacks from the resident bully. Back to the racing Clive seemed to have sorted the conditions out best, showing every one the way home, coming first in four races. John Burgoine came second overall the first Dragon. Mark won one race after tea but his earlier scores cost him. Steve & Alan S. both had a good showing. Thanks to Mike & Roger for running the racing also bird man Ian A. for the tea. Any chance of iced tea next week Ian? (GS)
Failing the iced tea Ian, could we have Pimm's with strawberries and cream? (MS)

Well, the winds got to us again. Racing today was postponed. Definitely "C" rig weather. We hope to catch up on the 30th of June.

A reduced fleet had an "interesting" afternoon's sailing. Wind was forecast around 20 knots gusting to 40 knots from the south west. However this direction meant that by the time it arrived on the course it was very variable in speed and direction due to the effect of the trees and clubhouse. At times all boats were overpowered and at times becalmed. Some skippers opted for "A" rigs and some for "B" with possibly just a tiny advantage to the "A" although Sid looked as if he might have borrowed a rig from his Footy. A close thing for first place, with Graham sailing in this class for the first time just making it. Third and fourth decided on count back. Thanks to Don and "H" for supervising and Ian for Tea. (MS)

A lovely afternoons racing, sailed in a good spirit by all. Sun shining, pleasant breeze. Graham S. started well but tailed off, Mark Litherland was consistent all afternoon and won the afternoon. Allan Coleman sneaked up on the inside to be the first Dragon home and coming second overall. Clive Hartland coming a close third. Harry Butler's new boat went well despite the barracking from his friend Roger. Not sure why Sid did not sail, but Brian forgot his boat? Thanks to everyone who took part in such a sporting way, let's keep it that way. Also special thanks to Ian for the tea and the young lady (Emma?) who collected the money. Also to Graham Tite for running the race and with all who helped him. (G.S.)

The day we had all been waiting for, racing again after the winter break. What a day, strong wind and waves. With thirteen potential competitors in the clubhouse, about half decided they had the wrong rig or had boat problems (e.g. Sid with a broken mast before even leaving the car park), so the brave ones started the first race. Mike Stevenson with a 'B' showing the way home. We then had early tea to see if the wind would drop, but it didn't so Graham T. decided to try and carry on as the brave ones where keen to sail. Mike carried on showing the way with John Burgoine pushing him hard. Alan Skitt and Rob Hudson showing that they could be a force to be reckoned with this year. The safety boat was also in use thanks to Graham T. (GS)
