WE HOPE TO RACE DURING THE WINTER IN A SIMILAR FORMAT i.e. FOOTY ON THE FOURTH TUESDAY OF THE MONTH BUT WITH THE FIRST HEAT STARTING AT 1330hrs
24th November 2015
And so to the last of the "November" series organised by Mark Litherland "The Rambling Syd Rumpo Shield" A stiff westerly caused a fair chop on the lake and casualties among the boats. However, a close fought tussle between Roger and Syd came down to the last race. Here's Roger receiving his trophy from Mark. So many thanks to Mark for getting this show on the road and thanks also to Mick Brown and Clive Hartland for officiating. |
27th October 2015
Nearly all the regulars turned out for the last of the "Summer" series. A moderate south easterly caused a few dead spots on the lake, but the wind held up quite well till the end - the final heat reduced to one lap. The usual suspects did well and Brian was consistent throughout.
Congratlulations to Roger for a great performance throughout the year with his well made own design boat.
Thanks to Clive for keeping order and bouy layers Graham T and Brian M and Ian for tea.

A slightly reduced fleet sailed in a fairly stiff westerly with quite a chop on the water. It turned into a Unitt family benefit with a first and second overall. Mark's win was after borrowing a sail from father. It's beginning to look as if the narrow beam boats are the ones to beat. Dave (95) with a new to him Slim seemed to be getting the measure of it at the end. Brian maintained his consistent form in spite of trying three different rigs.
Thanks to "H" , Alan, Dave and Mark for help and buoy duties and Ian for tea. (MS)

Some good racing today in spite of the "summer" weather. Wind variable easterly to southerly causing some dead spots in the lee of the club house. Rain, light at first and then fairly steady, caused the spectators to offer their advice from inside.
Keen racing between Roger and John with the last heat the decider. Sid came a good steady third and was pleased with a win in heat five. Dave Peters raced his new Slim - ex Phil Tyler fresh from Switzerland. Sure to improve with more familiarity. Graham, sailing Robin's boat, appeared to suffer rudder failure in heat 4, however after retrieval it started working OK. Brian probably had too little sail on and spectated after tea - provided as usual thanks to Ian. Thanks also to Mark L for supervising and calling the line. (MS) Some pictures here

Well, this "winter" sailing is certainly challenging. A very stiff, cool westerly causing very uneven water, posed problems for all the sailors. All were overpowered at times with involuntary turns and failure to tack when wanted. Seven started under the stern eye of Rear Commodore Peter Henderson with three having equipment problems. Allan got going after the first race having glued in a replacement rudder servo. John also suffered a failed rudder servo and Brian tried two boats to no avail. Roger coped very well with the conditions and probably regretted a change down of rig for the last race.
Thanks to Robin and "H" for keeping things going and Ian for refreshments. (MS)

What is it about Tuesdays and wind? Today we had another stiff north westerly causing quite a chop on the lake. Maybe the wind was a factor in three servo failures - Graham (40) continuing his run of bad luck with rudder failure, Mark (55) sail and Brian (78) rudder. Brian was able to carry on with a spare hull.
Once again Robin (4) showed what a class boat he has - also well sailed of course. It coped with the conditions very well and looked very impressive going down wind.
A close tussle between father Roger and son Mark had Roger just shaving it although Mark did get a first in heat three.
Thanks go to Clive for keeping order, Graham and Mark for buoy laying and of course Ian for tea.

A pretty stiff westerly on a cool but pleasant afternoon tested the metal of nine competitors. Pictures here. In the first race, the rescue boat had to bring in Graham (40) and Brian (78) with Graham not sailing again due to a suspect rudder servo leaving him in an unaccustomed position at the bottom of the table. Mark (55) struggled all afternoon with a new boat that seems to need the rig sorting as at times it was quicker going backwards. Close fought contest between Robin (4) and Roger (13) seemed to show that Robin is beginning to master Footy sailing (if anyone can ever truly master it). Sid gave a good account with his "bin bag" swing rig. Thanks go to Alan, Clive and "H" for keeping order and of course Ian for tea. (MS)

A stiff, chilly northwesterly greeted nine hardy Footymen to sail a figure of eight course. All boats were overpowered at times and there were casualties.
Roger (13) is beginning to look hard to beat with his own design 12" Slim. Son Mark (18) also looked good with the same design. However one should never discount Graham (40) and on another day....?
Robin (4) in an unaccustomed place at the bottom of the table suffered a series of boat problems but will surely recover.
Thanks go to Clive for scoring and keeping order, Graham and Mark buoy laying, and of course Ian for tea. (MS)
